CultÚr Féile: food, fun and fashion!

On Wednesday, 22 March 2012, four FCC societies – Rotaract Club, International Affairs Society (IAS), Forman Sociological Association and NUPSA Society organized one of the biggest and most successful events at FCC – CultÚr Féile (Culture Festival). Over 800 students attended the event which took place in the open cafe FCC.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate cultural diversity at FCC. FCC has the privilege to be one of the most diverse institutions in Pakistan, in terms of cultures represented by its student body. The university has students from all areas of Pakistan, as well as from other countries. This event gave a chance to everyone to come together to celebrate their culture!

Beautiful stalls of different cultures were set up including both Pakistani: Baluchi, Punjabi, Sindhi, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and Gilgit, and International cultures: Italy, France, Korea, India, USA, China and Turkey. The stalls looked exceptional as they not only represented the cultures perfectly but also were selling ethnic cuisines. Moreover, some people from the Red Crescent Society were selling the most unique-looking handmade cards at a stall and people from the Art Junction were doing face painting for everyone at another stall. People from the US Consulate also showed their presence for some time at the US stall.

The first FCC flash mob was also shot at the event! More than 25 people danced to English and Punjabi songs. The dance was enjoyed thoroughly by the audience. The flash mob was followed by cultural dance performances by different people from the areas of Gilgit and Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa.

The event concluded with FCC’s first large-scale Fashion Show in which more than 60 students participated. Cultures of all provinces of Pakistan and various religions was presented through this ramp event. People dressed up in traditional clothes from Saudi Arabia, Christian Wedding, Pakistani Wedding, Mughal era and more. Cash prizes were given to the three best walks of the Fashion Show by honorable judges Ms Naila Saher (Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication FCC) and Ms Alvina Wasim (Assistant Professor, Department of English FCC). Anica and Farhan won the first prize for the portrayal of Chitral’s culture, Ayesha won the second prize for Bridal (Mehndi) and Rija Irfan and Shahbaz Ahmad won the third prize for Kashmiri culture.

Culture Festival has had the most amazing feedback, both from media as well as faculty, staff and students of FCC. Formanites have labeled it as the most phenomenal and successful event that they have ever attended at FCC and the organizing team cannot wait for this event to happen again next year. They gave credit to the team work of all organizing societies and the University administration for their support.
