Intellectual Showdown (Summer Debate Series)
The ‘Intellectual Showdown’, hosted by Formanites Debating Society, from 20th July 2024 to 6th September2024, was a historic initiative by FDS. It brought 12 esteemed institutes from all around Pakistan together, presenting a thrilling display of parliamentary debating skills. The event showcased exceptional talent, fostering a spirit of intellectual competition and camaraderie.
The event was made a huge success by sheer dedication of society’s members, and advisor, Ms. Alvina Waseem who provided invaluable guidance and support. The FDS council and members in each department ensured a seamless execution, and participation, providing a smooth and enjoyable experience for all who engaged in thought-provoking debates.
The event was a testament to the power of debate in fostering intellectual growth, critical thinking, and promoted a culture of intellectual curiosity leaving participants eagerly anticipating future collaborations. Held virtually, this event showcased an impressive array of talent and produced over 50 new speakers, highlighting the society’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of debaters. From global issues to philosophical inquiries, the motions were designed to stimulate deep reflection and robust argumentation.
In addition to the debates, the event featured three declamation workshops led by esteemed speakers, Mr. Usman Pasha, Mr. Usama Zufiqar and Mr. Faizan Zaidi. These workshops provided participants with invaluable insights into the art of public speaking, enhancing their rhetorical skills and confidence. The combination of workshops and debates made the “Intellectual Showdown” a comprehensive learning experience for all involved.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the “Intellectual Showdown” was the diverse level of participation. This diverse participation not only enriched the debates but also fostered a spirit of understanding and mutual respect among the participants. The inclusion of over 50 new speakers underscored the event’s success in creating a platform for emerging talent to shine and learn from experts in the debating circle. With the support of Students Activities Office FCCU, FDS looks forward to carrying forward its legacy of excellence with same hardwork and dedication.
