FJS and Mass Comm Dept hold Forman Media Fiesta 14

The Forman Journalism Society (FJS) along with the Mass Communication Department organised an Inter-University short film and documentary contest. Twenty short films and documentaries from Kinnaird College for Women University, University of Punjab, Lahore College for Women University, Beaconhouse National University, National College of Arts, University of Engineering and Technology and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences , were shortlisted after an initial review and showcased in the competition titled Forman Media Fiesta’ 14′. Sarmad Khoosat, renowned TV and theatre actor, director and anchor and Sarmad Sehbai, writer, poet and TV and film director, were the chief guests of the event.

‘Saidpur Ek Saqafti Warsa’ by Harris Bhatti from Institute of Communication Studies, University of Punjab got the award for Best Documentary. In the short films category, “Roshan Nagar k Andhay” by Mannan Roy from Institute of Communication Studies, University of Punjab was declared the best. This short film bagged the award for Best Script and Best Editing also. Besides giving the first position, runners up were also declared.

 

Among documentaries, “Parsis of Lahore” by Zain Ali Bokhari and Ayesha Sajid from BNU got second position. Among short films, the second position went to “Blank Canvas” by Ahmad Baig Barlas from NCA. Award for best actor went to Basim for his acting in the short film ‘Lavi’ by LCWU while the Best Actress Award was given to Sana Mir for short film ‘12 Hours’ from BNU. The Best Camera Award was given to short film ‘Strum Ahead’ from UET. The Best Idea of Short Film award went to ‘Faces’ from UVAS and Best Sound Design to Living in Parallel from PU. Dean of Humanities Dr Waseem Anwar said that it was the need of the hour that the communication students fill the vacuum in the field of films and documentaries.

Sarmad Khoosat and Sarmad Sehbai both showed pleasure for being among the students of media and to review their work. Chairperson Mass Communication Department Prof Dr Mian Ahmed Hanan said that the short film contest provided the amateur, student filmmakers to have their work acknowledged.

At the end of the ceremony office the bearers of the Formanite Journalism Society were also acknowledged for their contributions in arranging range of activities by Mass Communication Department in year 2013-14. They were given awards and certificate in recognition of their services.
