WES organizes Feminist Comic Con

COMIC CON DAY 1

This November, Women Empowerment Society arranged the 3rd chapter of the annual Feminist Comic Con. The theme for this year’s comic con was Alternate Universe, highlighting the need to cultivate appreciation of freedom of expression and diversity. The 2 day event, starting on November 28, kicked off with an opening ceremony followed by a host of tournaments and competitions. From Ludo to Gaming to Fandom Trivia, there was a little bit of everything for everyone. Stalls selling fandom merchandise were also set up and were quite popular. In spirit of comic con, the movie Black Panther was also screened. A panel discussion with Ikra Saleem Khan, Eman Suleman, Unaiza Ali Barlas, Amal Nadeem and Hania Ather was the highlight of the day. The panel talked about feminist struggle in Pakistani society, especially as it pertains to media and creative arts. The discussion was followed by an interactive Q&A session which brought up topics like patriarchy’s negative influences on men, and the need for indigenous feminism in Pakistan.

COMIC CON DAY 2

The second day of the annual WES Feminist Comic Con carried on with the same zeal and zest that had been seen in the participants and the host team on the first day. In addition to contests like gaming, fan art, ludo and UNO matches to entertain and engage the participants, a cosplay competition was also arranged in which both the participants and the host team members put forward their best game and stole the show. The fun-filled day came to an energetic end at the closing ceremony with the amazing performance lineup featuring The Band, Aqs and Bilal Muneer and Waleed Asif from Khardaar. To appreciate the effort put in by the participants of the different contests that were arranged, prizes were distributed among the winners.
