UMS and Philosophy Society arrange lecture on ‘Why I am a Mathematical Realist’


The Undergraduate Mathematics and the Philosophy Societies collaboratively arranged a talk on the topic, ‘Why I am a Mathematical Realist’. Dr Mark J Boone, teacher in the Philosophy Department, was invited as guest lecturer. He told the audience about the fascinating ideas that exist in Philosophy regarding mathematical concepts. He talked about the Philosophy of Mathematics. He also discussed idealistic view such as Platonic ideas. Dr Boone also shared his famous example of ‘a triangle which you see is not real triangle as a real triangle exists in the World of Ideas’ and so on. He also talked about the Realists’ perspective about the topic. The talk was informative for the students and also helped them explore different perspectives.
