SBS holds lecture on control strategies for tuberculosis
In spite of the advances in medicine and health being made around the globe, tuberculosis continues to increase its grasp over Punjab. With that in mind the Senior Biology Society invited Program Manager-Provincial TB Control Program Dr Abdul Majeed Akhtar on 4 March 2015 to shed light on the control strategies to thwart one of the most debilitating illnesses to have taken root in Pakistan.
Dr Akhtar talked about the global TB situation in comparison with Pakistan and what the TB Control Program is doing to fight off this disease in Punjab. He reminded the audience that though Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah died of Tuberculosis but even after this national tragedy, not much was done to eliminate this disease from the country. He stressed upon the importance of spreading awareness to counter some negative perceptions about TB and invited students to be a part of this campaign. His talk also included a brief discussion on the spread and diagnosis of different types of TB. After the Q&A session, Dr Akhtar was given a tour of the research labs of the Department of Biological Sciences by its faculty.
Team SBS would like to thank Dr Natasha Anwar from the Biological Sciences Department for her help and support in organizing this event.
