LES invites Dr Nadeem ul Haq to talk about development, its complexity & dimensions

 

On 3 February 2015, the Lucas Economics Society invited Dr Nadeem ul Haq, Former Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Pakistan, to talk about the complexity of development and its dimensions with a local and global perspective.

Dr Haq discussed the 2008 global crises and how the revolution started in Pakistan in the 80’s and 90’s. He talked about the definition of development; the role the government plays in the development of a country; the post World War II growth, new economies, and economic theories. He said Pakistan had followed the theory of using foreign financial injections to fund development.

Dr Nadeem ul Haq also showed demonstrated the use of a software that depicted the urban structure of Karachi and its interpretation in development terms.
