IAS to hold a seminar on ‘Step It Up for Gender Equality’

Attention Formanites,

The International Affairs Society is proud to bring you a seminar in honor of International Women’s Day.

Every year, the United Nations celebrates International Women’s Day by reflecting on the progress that’s been made in terms of gender equality for women, sounding a call to action, and celebrating ordinary women who’ve done extraordinary things. This year’s theme is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”

We at the International Affairs Society would like to share the stories of women who have not let themselves be judged by their gender, but by their abilities, struggles and achievements. By acknowledging how indispensable women are in changing a nation, we will be discrediting stereotypes that say otherwise. And by reinforcing the idea of female “change-makers” we’ll be calling for greater gender equality in our society. We would also like to dispense the notion that feminism equates to man-hating, and instead foster the belief that gender equality is in everyone’s best interest and therefore gender inequality is everybody’s problem.

Venue: E-025

Time: 02:30 pm

Date: Wednesday 09 March 2016
