ELS puts up 2 one-act plays
The Ewing Literary Society presented two one-act plays on Thursday 18 April and Friday 19 April 2013. Directed by Marianne Murphy, the plays starred FCC students at their best. The first play, The Zoo Story was written by Edward Albee and featured Musa Ghaznavi as Peter and M Wajeeh Ahsan as Jerry, the two main characters. The play explored the impact Jerry has on Peter’s life as the two meet as strangers in a park. The play was themed around absurdity versus reality, alienation and loneliness and wealth and poverty.
Written by Charles George, the second play, When Shakespeare’s Ladies Meet, was a satirical comedy, in which five of Shakespeare’s heroines meet to give Juliet advise on love. The cast members were Huma Rana, playing Portia, Wania Khan playing Catherine, Yusra Amjad playing Ophelia, Hameem Naveed as Desdemona, Maham Asif as Juliet and Anook Kamran Kureshi as Cleopatra.
Both the plays were received well by the audience who appreciated the actors’ skill in bringing the characters to life. Especially appreciated was the depth the cast members brought to The Zoo Story and the humor in When Shakespeare’s Ladies Meet.
