Earth Watch organizes lecture on “Use of RS and GIS for Natural Resource Management” by WWF Pakistan

Earth Watch Society invited Mr Hassan Ali, GIS Analyst-Conservational Biologist WWF Pakistan, to speak on “Use of RS and GIS for Natural Resource Management” on Thursday 3 March 2011.

The lecture was a part of Earth Watch awareness campaign for environmental management techniques. Mr. Hassan Ali introduced “Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Science” and its application in natural resource management, specifically in Pakistan. He explained its benefits by referring to different projects initiated by WWF Pakistan GIS Lab, such as species distribution mapping, species tracking, mapping land cover, forest cover monitoring, wetlands mapping and flood extent mapping.

Earlier, Dr Rehan Siddique, Dean of Natural Sciences FCC, welcomed the guest speaker. Prof Kashif Shiffique, Prof Sohail Ahamed and Prof Zareen Jamil Qureshi from Geography Department FCC also attended the lecture.
