APS Organizes Book Launch of Land of Beauty, Land of Pain: Seeking the Soul of Pakistan
On 22 January 2019, Armacost Psychological Society (APS) organized a book launch event for Matthew Vaughan’s second book on Pakistan titled “Land of Beauty, Land of Pain: Seeking the Soul of Pakistan”. The interactive session involved Dr Elizabeth Schwaiger interviewing the author regarding the new book. From sharing his ethnic background to the story of his marriage and how he and his family settled in Islamabad eight years ago, the author delved deep into what inspired him to write the book, as well as what made Pakistan beautiful yet painful at the same time. Matthew Vaughan also recited two chapters from the new book just to give us a taste of what to expect. The session ended with a Q&A session, where students and teachers got to interact with the author, and the author shared what he liked and disliked about Pakistan, as well as his favourite Pakistani foods. Overall, it was an enlightening session which helped in breaking stereotypes and portrayed Pakistan in a positive light.
