EWC organizes first Bio Blitz

The Earth Watch Club held a Bio Blitz on 30 April 2014 in the FCC Botanic Gardens. The event was held for the students of the Madeleine Casesorber School which is run on campus in the A-Block and provides evening classes for the children of FCC staff.

The Bio Blitz, conducted in collaboration with Dr Natasha Anwar from the Biological Sciences Department, was the first to be held in Pakistan. The activity revolved around identifying and recording as many different species of plants, birds, insects, fungi, mammals, and other life forms within a specific area and time frame.

The information obtained after the Bio Blitz was used to make a ‘species record’ which will be fed into a database that will be used to monitor wildlife on campus.

Principal of Madeleine Casesorber School, Mr Naveed appreciated the efforts of the Earth Watch Club in organizing the Bio Blitz for the school’s children as it turned to be an exciting opportunity for the students to learn more about biodiversity and ecological conservation.
