FSA hosts lecture by Dr David Gow
The Forman Sociological Association hosted a lecture by Dr David Gow on The Relationships among Participation, Democracy, and Citizenship on 24 September 2014. Dr Gow is a socio-cultural anthropologist who studies processes of local development, the evolution of local politics, and the relationships among participation, democracy, and citizenship.
In the lecture, Dr Gow talked about his research as an anthropologist in Colombia over the past 20 years and reflected on local perceptions of development, alternative government at the provincial level, and the social and cultural history of an indigenous political movement. He also drew parallels between Colombia and Pakistan to address the above issues in a comparative context.
The lecture was well attended by students, faculty members of the Sociology department as well as other departments of the University. The lecture ended in a very engaging question-answer session by both the students and faculty.
